Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo has stated that new signing Eden Hazard can be as good as club legend Gianfranco Zola.

The Belgian playmaker has joined the Blues this summer from French side Lille, and had a startling Premier League debut for the Stamford Bridge club against Wigan on Sunday.

Di Matteo is glad to have Hazard at his disposal and feels he will be an asset to the west London club this term in their search for silverware.

“Gianfranco was a wonderful talent, an artist I would say — Eden might become an artist as well,” he told The Telegraph.

“He’s played a lot on the wing and he’s played behind the striker. It was great to see him enjoying himself and getting his teeth into the Premier League.

“He had a good start, but it’s one game out of 38. It certainly gives him confidence.

“He’s a talented young boy. We’ll have to see how he grows into a man, and how quickly he will be an important player for Chelsea,” the trainer concluded.
